Some trailers add gear to your life.
Pebble adds freedom.
Today’s Owner Story comes from “JC”, a Cybertruck driver who camped through the pain points of traditional trailers, long setups, tough backing, and brutal towing range, and decided to change the game. JC placed a day-one pre-order after watching Pebble’s 2023 reveal, joined an early tryout in April, took delivery at Pebble HQ in late June, and has already logged about 3,000 miles in just a couple of months.
What follows is his experience, why he switched, what surprised him on the road, and how features like Easy Tow, InstaCamp, and Remote Control have turned solo camping into something effortless.
“I became a first-order customer right after the reveal. Then, at the first delivery event in late June, I picked up my Pebble, headed straight to Lake Berryessa, and it was just… easy.”
From Tents to Trailers: The Journey to Pebble
Pebble: How did you get into camping originally? JC: I started with tent camping - usually a couple times a year in summer. One turning point was a July trip to Lake Tahoe back in 2020. It was hot during the day, but the night dropped into the 40s. That’s when I said, “I want a trailer.” In 2021, I bought a compact travel trailer (about 22 feet). It had the basics - a bed, bunks for my kids, a bathroom, and a shower - and it worked well for our family back then.
Pebble: And you’re a Cybertruck driver now? JC: Yes. That changed the towing equation. With traditional trailers, the towing range can drop a lot. If the truck says 300 miles on a full charge, towing could bring it down to around 100–120 miles. A simple 200-mile trip to Tahoe once required two charging stops, which also meant finding big lots to unhook, charge, and then re-attach. It was a ton of work.
“My old trailer got used maybe ten times in three years. Since June, I’ve towed the Pebble about 3,000 miles on five trips. It’s just that much easier.”
Why Pebble: Solving Real Pain Points
Pebble: When did Pebble first land on your radar? JC: During your 2023 YouTube reveal. The founder talked about the real pain points: hitching, backing, exact positioning at hookups, leveling, and long setup sequences. Everything he said - I felt those. I had the same experience.
Pebble: You were also curious about other electric concepts, right? JC: Yes, I looked at Lightship before Pebble. It’s interesting and has a big battery and lots of solar, but the interior wasn’t for me - no true dedicated bed, less storage than I wanted, and overall it felt too large for my style of solo camping. Pebble’s layout felt practical and familiar, and it addressed more than just towing energy: it addressed setup, backing, leveling, and dumping. That’s what sold me.
“Pebble didn’t just help with towing - it solved the chores that make camping hard: backing, leveling, setup, and dumping.”
From Reveal to Delivery - And Straight to the Campsite
Pebble: Walk us through your order and first trips. JC: After the reveal, I refreshed the site and pre-ordered immediately. In April, Josh invited me to try a Pebble unit for a weekend - that sealed it. On June 28, Pebble hosted the first delivery event. I picked up my trailer at HQ and drove straight to Lake Berryessa. It was simple to use from day one, and I’ve been out almost every weekend since - sometimes with Pebble, sometimes truck-camping with a rooftop tent.
Pebble: Have you done longer hauls yet? JC: Yes. Most recently, I towed to Mammoth Lakes from San Jose. I charged my Cybertruck once at Groveland, but the Pebble itself didn’t need charging. Thanks to an Easy Tow software update with regenerative capability on downhills, the trailer used about 4% of its battery over 100 miles with elevation changes - up to around 7,000 feet, then long descents. Watching the app flip from negative consumption to positive (regen) downhill was a great moment.
“With the new Easy Tow regen on descents, the Pebble used only 4% over 100 miles in the mountains. That’s huge.”
The Big Three Features That Changed Everything
Pebble: What are your top three Pebble features? JC:
- Easy Tow - Towing confidence is the big one. I have a rule of thumb now: I can tow about 2 miles per 1% (of what I’m monitoring), so even if the truck estimates are conservative, I’m not stressed.
- InstaCamp - Push a button, and the trailer levels and stabilizes. Stairs deploy. I know when I can open the door and be “home.”
- Remote Control - I camp solo most of the time. Remote Control lets me park precisely without a spotter or truck gymnastics. I can place the trailer exactly where hookups are, or exactly where I want it - left, right, inches at a time.
Pebble: What about Auto Dump? JC: It’s one of those “live better” features. I don’t need to fuss or handle a bunch of accessories. I can just do the thing and get back to camping.
“With Remote Control I can park the trailer precisely where I want it -solo. And InstaCamp means I’m leveled and settled in minutes.”
Setups, Tear-downs, and the 40-Minute Problem
Pebble: How did Pebble change your arrival and departure routines? JC: With my old trailer, I recorded a video once showing the sequence: back in, try to level with the truck, unhook, drop stabilizers, run cables and hoses, then fine-tune level. It could easily take 40 minutes (or more) if you had to drive up onto blocks for side-to-side level and then crank four stabilizers. Now I push a button. Leveling and stabilizers deploy. If I’m leaving in the morning, I raise everything, back up the truck, Magic Hitch on, and I’m gone - usually in five minutes.
Pebble: And the backing? JC: That used to be my biggest solo issue. Who’s helping? Who’s spotting? Now I don’t need anyone - the Remote Control solves it.
“I used to budget 40 minutes to set up. With Pebble, I’m leveled, stabilized, and relaxing in minutes.”
A Weekend-Warrior’s Rhythm
Pebble: You’ve been out nearly every weekend lately? JC: Yes, since July I’ve been out every weekend. Sometimes it’s Pebble, sometimes it’s the rooftop tent on the truck. I also took a two-week Cybertruck drive to Alaska this summer. Next year, I’m planning the Dempster Highway to reach the Arctic Ocean and camp right on the beach. I tried to do the Dalton Highway to the Arctic Ocean this year but ran out of time - there’s limited fast charging up there, and two weeks wasn’t enough for 6,000 miles. Next time I’ll add five more days: three for charging, two for driving.
Pebble: You’ll take Pebble to the Arctic? JC: That’s the plan. I’ve already done Alaska in the truck, so adding Pebble feels very doable. The regen on big descents helps, and I’m getting more confident each trip.
Inside the Pebble: Layout, Comfort, and Daily Use
Pebble: How does Pebble’s interior work for your style? JC: It’s perfect for solo trips and still adaptable when my family comes along. I like that Pebble is not just “stylish”; it’s functional. I have a real bed (not a daily sofa conversion), smart storage, and a kitchen layout that’s easy to live with. I don’t need a dishwasher at a campsite -I need usable storage. Pebble gives me that.
Pebble: Any comfort must-haves? JC: Temperature control and bathroom/shower. That’s part of why my wife didn’t love tent camping. Pebble gives me predictable climate comfort and a bathroom I can use anywhere - even off-grid. That’s huge.
“I like smart space more than fancy tricks. A real bed, good storage, and a kitchen I can work in - that’s what makes trips enjoyable.”
App & OTA: The Tech That Keeps Getting Better
Pebble: You noticed Easy Tow’s regen after an update? JC: Yes - OTA updates are a big deal. Before, the Easy Tow energy display was always negative while towing; after the update, on downhills, I saw it go positive. That confirmed regen was active. The Mammoth-to-Groveland leg proved it in real life: uphill consumed, downhill gave a lot back, and the Pebble ended the segment with very little net battery usage.
Pebble: Anything else you’d like to see in future updates or hardware? JC: Minor stuff. I’d love an exterior 120V outlet on the curb side near the kitchen window. Right now, I can use the outlet inside the tunnel and feed a cord out, but it means leaving the tunnel ajar. There’s a pass-through opening, but the routing isn’t ideal. An outside outlet would make plugging in lights or a small induction cooktop super clean.
Camp Logistics: Packing and Forget-Proofing
Pebble: What’s the one item you can’t leave without? JC: I actually solved that by packing in systems. I keep three big containers ready to go:
- Fire & light box: campfire tools, lighting, gloves, etc.
- Kitchen box: cookware, utensils, paper towels, an induction burner.
- Utility box: trash bags, extra lights, miscellaneous essentials.
That way, I don’t forget the basics - it’s just clothes and fresh food I add before leaving. (And I still sometimes forget a jacket when day temps trick me. Camp stores love me.)
Reactions at the Campground
Pebble: What do people say when you roll in? JC: Two kinds of reactions. Some walk over and say, “I saw this AI trailer online, I didn’t know it was real.” Others ask if it’s a Tesla trailer because I’m towing with a Cybertruck. I explain Pebble is a new RV manufacturer making an AI-powered, all-electric travel trailer that helps extend towing range and automates the stuff that makes RVing hard.
“People watch me park with Remote Control and ask, ‘Wait, you didn’t back in with the truck?’ I just press buttons and put it exactly where I want.”
From Pain Points to Possibilities
Pebble: How would you sum up the change from your old trailer to Pebble? JC: It’s the difference between planning around problems and planning around places. Before, I was thinking about where I could unhook to charge, how long setup would take, and who could help me back in. Now I think about lakes, forests, and how far I can go this weekend.
Pebble: And the phrase you keep using about towing? JC: “Tow with confidence.” I know my numbers now, how the terrain will treat me, and what Easy Tow plus regen will do. Even when the in-truck estimate looks scary, I’ve learned what’s actually possible with Pebble behind me.
